My partner has decided to downsize her Nissan 350Z as she is finding it too expensive to run (£505 per year tax). She is looking for a car with zero tax and high mpg rating. We have looked at a 2012 Fiesta Titanium 1.6 diesel with 80,000 miles on the clock.
Does anyone here have any experience of this car and can advise us if there are likely to be problems. The Nissan is up for sale if anyone’s interested.

I have a 2010 Fiesta 1.6 diesel. Had it 2 years so far with no issues so far. Just normal/standard service items. Easy to do yourself or cheap via a dealer. I achieve 52 mpg round town and 10% more on motorways. Cheap to run with £20 road tax, tyres are also well priced for decent branded rubber & main dealers also offer competitive servicing. Not much to look out on these tbh, they are a decent car and go well when looked after. Check service history, especially if it has the DPF.
That's high miles for a car of that age. Around here in the 'expensive' South (at Ford dealers) the 1.6 TDCI at 3 years old are about 7-8k with 30-40k on the clock. |

I'd look for a lower mileage one too, there must be plenty of lower mileage ones to choose from.
Great cars the fiesta, little go karts. |

My brother has the 1.4 diesel Fiesta Titanium. He bought it new and has covered 70K miles in it with no mechanical problems. We took it to France and toured around, it was a great car to drive. The 1.4 is underpowered for any more than two people or one plus luggage, it struggled with bikes etc on board - so going for the 1.6 is the right choice.
One thing you might not think to look at, his alloy wheels are really soft and quite weak. This is apparently a known problem. He has had to replace two wheels after hitting pot-holes and a third has a nasty ding. I don't think he is particularly careless about pot-holes, so if the roads around you are rough it is something to consider. |

My thanks to all that replied.
Lucky, I am aware of the wheel problem as I used to do the insurance for a fleet of Fords. We had 3 times as many claims for damaged Fiesta wheels than wheels on our Focus's and Mondeo's. I live in Norfolk and the roads here are not great. I also handled the paperwork for third party pothole claims and there were MANY.
