Default Speedo not working

Just got my bike back from the shop (which is over an hours drive away so I don't want to go back if I can have a look at it myself), where I got the wheel bearings replaced. Only noticed on the way home that the speedo was reading 0km/hr the whole trip home. IIRC, the speedo works from magnets on the LHS rotor, I checked that they're still there but not really sure what to check next. Any ideas?

Did you take the magnet out to see if it's broken?

The magnets on the rotor? I didn't take them out but they're all still there, I didn't check the magnet (is there one) on the fork. I'm guessing this should be my next step?

I dropped the bike at low speed and the speedo stopped working. It was the rotor itself that was damaged. A new rotor fixed the problem.

Have you called the shop?Quite common for whoever put the front wheel back in to get the alignment wrong and break the rotor.Down to them to replace it if so.

Might just need setting to mph and nothing to do with any damage. You can do this yourself using the speedo. I can't remember how, but IIRC, in odometer mode, hold down the adj button to toggle between the two.

Whether it was set to MPH or KPH it still shouldn't be reading 0 when you're riding.

Missed the zero bit, thought the op meant it was reading in kph.

Have you checked the front wheel has been put in the right way round? Magnets obviously need to be on the same side as the sensor, from memory it's the left side.....

What he said. The same thing happened to me when they installed a new front tire- the speedo would not work afterwards. Apparently it is very easy to get the alignment wrong, and the speedo sensor just kind of falls apart.

Return it to the shop and tell them to fix it, it's what I did (at no extra charge, of course, it is their mistake).
