Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
Hi all
I've just refreshed my piston rings and having put the engine back together the oil level rises when I turn the engine over. Naturally the oil light doesn't go out either, so what have I done wrong? Cheers Stuart |

2-The oil light is for pressure. IIRC it will only go off once the engine is running and pressure is being registered |

Re: Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
Hi
When you look in the sight glass the level raises as the engine is turned over. To my mind, and from what I can remember it should drop as the oil is pumped round? In the past when I have cranked engines over, even though the engine is not running the oil light will go out when the pressure is reached. I didn't have the plugs in as I wanted to make sure oil was circulating around the engine as it had just been rebuilt. Cheers Stuart |

Odd!
Have you put the oil pump in backwards somehow? Can't remember if this is actually possible but if it was just blowing bubbles in the sump it may give this effect. And yes, when all is well, the oil light will go out when cranking.

Re: Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
Hi all
Just spoke with Slick Bas who did the work on the engine, and turns out it was an air lock in the oil filter. Nice simple, easy, cheap fix, luckily. Cheers Stuart |

Re: Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
I've had to take the oil pump out and pour oil into the galleries before to get one to prime.
Odd considering that sort pump should self prime, but oh well...

Re: Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
So fixed with just oil and filter change?
What caused the airlock do you know |

Re: Oil Level Rises When Turning Engine
Problem occurred as there was oil in the filter, was just changing the oil, and the air lock was between new oil in sump and old oil in filter.
In future I will keep an eye on the level when I first start it after an oil change Cheers Sturt |
