Default 2002 SV650s Rev problems

I was out yesterday for around 100 miles on the motorway in heavy rain and all was fine. However when i came into town at traffic lights the revs were fluctuating between 900 and 2000 and when pulling away it kept stalling unless i gave it around 4000 revs to get moving. Once moving it was fine only at low revs it was dying.

Has anyone had this problem or know whats causing it?

+1 to what Red Ones said - I'd look first at the front plug cap, probably some water had got in and was causing an intermittent misfire at lower rpm. Check the drain hole on the side of the front cylinder is clear of crud, and the lead fits into the cap snugly.

While the plug cap is out, check the spark plug is snugged up tight too, they can loosen a bit over time.

Welcome to the forum, by the way

Thanks Craig380, I've had a look at the plug and put some grease around it to stop anything getting in. I'll have a look at the drain in the morning. Its sounding a bit better since I did the plug and I had to adjust the idle RPM to 1300 as it was around 1000 when ticking over.

Its fine. Its just that the symptoms you describe could be caused by many different things depending on what bike it is.

I've moved your thread to the SV Talk section and edited the title to make it a bit clearer.

But what you describe on an SV, thats been ridden in the rain and then developed this fault. I'd agree with the others you've got a wet front spark plug.

Its pretty common, easy to fix and there are a few things you can try to stop it happening again.

Have a browse through the forum / use the search function... you'll find lots of threads on the subject...
