Default Apples

My girls and I, armed with brush hooks, fought our way up onto our neglected veg plot and harvested the apples. Six huge bags of cookers, and three large bags of Fiestas and Russets. We've just spent two hours sorting and washing the cookers. The unmarked ones are being stored for later use and the ones with marks or bruising are being cored and stewed to be frozen. We'll pull out a few of the biggest for stuffing and baking. The eating apples will get used gradually over the next few months. Both types store well so we're sorted for apples now probably through till January.
I'm currently sitting here eating a bowl of stewed apple with a handful of raisins thrown in.

I froze a load of Newton Wonders last week and made some fig, red onion and apple chutney with the marked ones. Crumbletastic.

Last year's cider from the garden was pretty darn good. Not such a huge haul of apples this year having pruned our trees back quite hard, but perhaps I can supplement by raiding the neighbours trees.
