E10 Fuel

Evening all, I have read that E10 unleaded fuel is to be rolled out to replace the currently available E5 fuel in 95 Ron. I have checked the online compatibility site and it says it should not be an issue. My bike is a 2008 K7 twin spark. Should I continue as normal when they switch to E10 or could I use 98 Ron E5? I have read that the "Super" unleaded will remain as E5.

Think there was a thread on this not too long ago. Most injected bikes will be fine, only Carbs, IIRC, will be a bit more effected.

Suzuki
E10 petrol is cleared for use in all current production models with petrol engines.

For older models: Please refer to Owner's Manual

2002 Model Years and onwards - all motorcycles can use E10 with no problems.
1992-2001 Model Years – some models can use E10 fuels and some models cannot. The user should contact his national importer for clarification.
1991 Model Years and earlier – RON 98 (no bio-fuel content) must be used.

The main problem with ethanol is its love of water - not a problem if the vehicle is used regularly but if not used for months can cause issues. Your mpg may get slightly worse with E10.

Not really. My mantra on bike fuel is; Supermarket filling station=Super Unleaded, any brand station=normal petrol.

My MPG is pretty consistent if i do this, and the bike runs fine.

might be being dumb here but wont the higher content of ethanol be better for carbed bikes in the winter to help stop carb freezing? seem to recall that isopropyl was used for that purpose.

i think the media are going a bit nutz over this. yes you might drop a few mpg but not much. i get 60mpg on the bike so expect to drop to say 58. no biggie. will it eat fuel lines and gaskets? maybe in really old bikes (that are probably goosed anyway) so best use a stabiliser/additive. service manuals usually state to change fuel, brake, breather, vacuum etc.etc lines every 4 years or so anyway, how may people do that?

i dont care what it is as long as it makes my bikes/cars piston's go up and down.

Well the more ethanol in petrol the more water is likely to be in there ( ethanol attracts water ) so the water will freeze before the petrol.... I am puzzled as to how destroying rainforest to grow huge areas of monocrops that deplete the already poor soil, which then gets washed away ( and never gets replaced ) just to add to fuel qualifies as 'green and good for the planet'.

Water will only freeze if it is as free water, adding something like an alcohol is a co-solvent so keeps all three in a single solution. The green credentials of ethanol fuel are a bit shaky, best from sugar cane, worst from corn IIRC. As for octane number, no you won't notice anything.
