Default Passions flaring over sprocket change

Just another day on the Z900RS forum. A slight disagreement of opinion on a sprocket change - the background story is people are changing the front sprocket, some have used an aftermarket supplier JTS, others think that it's not as good as the Kawasaki sprocket, it seems to have ignited passions between 2 members:

Why the subject has stretched to 35 pages is a mystery to me, especially when the clunk from 5th to 6th only merits 29 pages and is, arguably, more important.

Never seen any thing like this on here. Its like reading Crash.net!

I subscribe to the Homebrew forum, it can have near a thousand on site at anyone time yet it never gets personal. (The admin does shut down the thread if things begin to get fruity)
The negative side of forums.

Oooeeerrr, proper 'handbags at dawn' that was eh!
Seen that kind of thing many times on different forums, far too many 'keyboard warriors' out there thinking they can say whatever they like without fear of reprisals.
So glad nothing like that happens on here, in fact if I'm being totally honest ... I think this is probably the most helpful / informative/ friendly forum I've ever joined.
( No affiliation with this forum btw!).

I bet those two contributors had "previous" and it just spilled over onto that thread.

I have bought the sprocket (a JTS) but not fitted it. The reason I was thinking of fitting it was because of the clunk between 5th and 6th - I would raise the gearing (ie make it rev lower per mph) and avoid using 6th.
My dealer said it would cause ECU problems which is, apparently b/s, since many have done the change without an issue but it can be difficult to remove the sprocket nut without an air ratchet thingy. Winter, apathy and a broken arm set in, so I need to revisit that decision. Since I bought the JTS a sleuth has found a Kawasaki part number for the 1 tooth bigger sprocket so I may order that instead.

It's fascinating what irritates people - I find the 5th to 6th change hideous (although some bikes don't exhibit the issue) others dismiss it as "quirky". There again there's a rush to get the ECU remapped to stop the off-idle stumble (I've not noticed it) and twitchy throttle (not noticed that either). I don't like the slipper clutch because it feels like it's never going to fully engage from rest but nobody has mentioned that.
We all hate the 2400 rpm cold start but that can be fixed by an expensive ECU remap or a plastic washer inserted under the cold start lever on the throttle body. (There's an adjustment screw, too, but it has been painted to show meddling).
