A 2020 R NineT Scrambler to be precise. Barely run in with 1700 miles on the clock.
Pretty heavy at a standstill and steering felt a bit weird at walking pace at first. Soon got used to it. Might be the steering damper. You don’t feel the weight once you’re moving and it handles really well. The Metzeler tyres look pretty knobbly but are good on the road. Good enough for me anyway. Loads of low down power and, compared to the MT-09 it’s all a bit less revvy. I went for my first overtake, shifted down, twisted the trottle, pulled out and immediately hit the rev limiter. ![]() It’s just the characteristic of the engine. You don’t need the revs, it pulls all the way through. Heated grips are a nice touch but not too many other creature comforts. Standard pipes look good and sound good. There’s no lock on the seat - you need to undo a torx head screw. That’s not an issue as there’s absolutely no storage space under there anyway. It came with panniers so I can use them or get the fuel cap ring for my Givi tank bag. There’s no easy way to use my ABBA stand. They do a kit but part of it has to stay on the bike and you need to cable tie the foot pegs up out the way. As it’s a single sided swing arm I can’t use my paddock stand either. That’s the only slight niggles so far and it’s not really a big deal. And when you rev it at the lights it rocks side to side, which amuse me. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Last edited by TamSV; 27-11-22 at 05:19 PM. |

Nice. Very different to an MT09.

Great looking bike Tam. Always had a bit of a soft spot for the (slightly smaller) boxers.

Does look fun. Not sure how legal that plate is...
One thing that looks odd to me though is the front tyre. I thought the tread block chevrons should point in the direction of travel, like the back tyre. Is it on the wrong way round?

I had a R1100S it took me a while to get used to the side to side rocking, I kept thinking it was falling over when stationary

I’m pretty confident on the status of the plate. ![]() You do see some bike tyres with a reverse pattern on the front. The Avon Storms were the same if I remember correctly. I think the idea is the rear is optimised for drive and the front is optimised for braking. Possibly even more relevant for something like this BMW that’s pretending it can be used off-road? Having said the above, I had to go to the garage and check the tyre markings to make sure it’s on the right way
![]() Interestingly, the Maxxis on the MT has the grooves running out from front to back. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
