Default Filtering position

I was wondering this morning what is people's preferred position. Lane position for filtering on a three lane road, that is.

To be honest, whichever offers the best route through. Although I prefer to be between the offside and middle lanes whereever possible.

wherever theres a gap, normally betweeen the 2nd and 3rd but i'm prone to a bit of lane jumping as well if i spot a gap in the 1st and 2nd lanes and cars in the 3rd dont move out of the way

I do a fair amount of filtering on the three lane sections of the M8 and virtually always filter between the two overtaking (rightmost) lanes. The primary benefits are that you avoid traffic joining / leaving the motorway. There are no HGVs to contend with in the second overtaking lane which makes life much less intimidating.

In town I filter wherever a safe opportunity presents itself.

I did filter between lanes if there was a gap. but never to the left of the left lane.

That was until some woman driving in the opersite direction decide that the way to turn right was to stick your noise into the oncomming traffic and it will stop for you.

She wrote off my TW125 so now I always filter to the right of the right hand lane. (well almost always)

In my experience, motorbikes filter in between the two 'overtaking' lanes, unless someone up front is going really slow, in which case they nip into the slow and middle lanes to get past the pootler.

In town? Where the gap is smallest (more thrills)!
