Default price of a radiator

Developed a leak in my radiator on a K2 model. Took radiator out in the hope of getting it repaired, but too damaged for repair. Just got a quote from the dealer for a replacement: inc VAT it comes to £360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why the hell is a simple radiator so XXXXXXing expensive. Any suggestions?

Julian, these things are stupidly expensive. Was it a stone? This is the reason I forked out for a radiator cover (well as soon as I found out the price of a new one!).

You can often find them on Ebay but who is saying that it's beyond repair?

Hi Greg,
twas indeed a stone. A very good radiator repair place in Bedford have looked at it, but its really beyond repair. My next plan (apart from buying a radiator cover) is to scour MCN for a breakers yard and try and get one from there.
What a pain. I thought I'd only have the bike out of action for a few days, but this is looking more like a few weeks.

There are places who can and will repair radiators, including replacing the core if necessary. There are also places who can't be bothered.

It's not on your doorstep, but I've had dealings with a place in Kenilworth, near Coventry, who can rebuild virtually any rad, I've seen curved rads (superbike type) which they rebuilt including bending the new core! They use the old end tanks/brackets etc.

You could try giving them a phone call (that's the easiest way to contact them), they're a very small family business, and very helpful.

A clue as to what cost to expect, they made a custom intercooler for me, fabricated alum end tanks, high spec alum core etc, similar overall size to an SV rad, for £160+vat.
