Is it true that the forks 'clonk' when you go over bumps? And is the gear box realy as bad as is made out by the main site?
I got this information off the main site, http://www.sv650.org/reviews/bike_ma...004_guide/bike review.htm I will still be buying an SV ![]() ![]() Cheers SPeeeeDY |

With stock bits mine clonked over bumps... With the heavier oil and Ohlins springs it only clonks if I nail it over a speed bump... I don't know what causes it really, play in the forks?
The gearbox, IMHO, is fine... I sometimes miss 2nd when I'm clutchless shifting but that's because I'm not hitting it hard enough, not because of any failing in the box. (likewise if it jumps out of 2nd into neutral- lots of people complain about this, IMHO it's poor shifting techinique or bad setup that's to blame most of the time) Occasional false neutrals are the only downer, and to be fair I think we get them more often than some bikes... I think I get one every 500 miles or so depending on what sort of riding I'm doing, which is not bad. There's mods you can do to fix it but practically nobody does them, which implies it's not a problem ![]()

It's not the absolute smoothest gearbox I've ever used, but it's pretty good, certainly nothing I'd even think of complaining about. The clunk in the forks hasn't gone away on the new shapes, though. |

I'd definately not rule out that most of mine are a result of a limp left foot anyhow

I found my false neutral problem went away when I got new boots. My old ones had a sole that was too soft and flexed. With the new booties, I move my toe up slightly and it doesn't miss (he says as he knocks on wood

I seem to remember someone saying that the 'donk' is due to the intrument mounting not being very stiff & it's this flexing & bouncing the clocks off something.
Had a few false neutrals but I reckon if I revisit all the linkeage & adjust accordingly it'll improve (it did before). I really must maintain this bike better. ![]() |
