Default Insurance...

Can anyone recommend an insurance company? I'm collecting the SV soon and need to get this sorted obviously.

I've done a quick search but nothing has jumped out, sorry if this has been done to death before.

Carole Nash has been not only competitive but also (at least for me) the service has been quite excellent.

I'm afraid to say there are no easy options here - getting a long list of insurers and ringing all of them is the best thing to do.

There are can be extras too... some offer legal protection, european cover, or breakdown assistance, some or all of which you might want.

Depending on what kind of insurance you get (fully comp or tpft) and how you personaly weigh up the risks, you might want to opt for a higher excess in exchange for a lower premium. I was getting quotes around the £670 mark from most places untill I phoned motorcycle direct, who quoted me £570 with a higher excess. However...

Also, beware of hidden costs. Example: I had no idea on the milage I'd be doing, so said 5000 (average annual milage is 4000). I thought I was over estimating and assumed that I could step up to the next bracket if I needed to anyway. Unfortunately I racked up the 5000 miles in the space of 5 months, and when I told my insurance company (motorcycle direct) they told me they don't do a higher milage bracket. I had to get unlimited milage cover for an extra £130, effectively bringing my total premium to £700.

So, due to not asking them a simple question when getting quotes I've ended up not only paying more for my premium, but I've got a higher excess than I might otherwise have.

I think when I come to renew I'll write down a list of questions, then phone as many companies as I can.

I'm with devitt, they are cheap, but their after sales service isnt good, my brother is with them to and they made a right mess of his direct debit payments

I've always found Carol Nash to be expensive or high excess, but it all depends on the individuals circumstances.

Mine is due next week, so I'll be looking through the bike mag ads and getting loads of quotes.

Biketeam has had good reviews on here before so I'll be giving them a call.
