having re-read it, that's a bloody disgrace. no licence (with 8 points on it!), no insurance, dodgy steering, brakes and failing to stop even though he knew he had injured the guy...

300 quid and a short spell inside

I know it doesn't sound like much, but two months inside can feel like an awefully long time, especially if your not used to getting into trouble.

Still, he should have just been shot.

Indeed - these are people on the roads I fear most. They can't drive to save their lives and have no insurance.

And thankfully the drivers career is effectively ruined too, so he will pay for what he's done. Unlike most who are unemployed bums with nothing to lose.

A good point. As a law student, any time spent 'inside' is going to look terrible on his records. Now that, I have to laugh at

You met many law students, Warren?

The guy is just plain scum.
It's not bad enough that he would deliberately drive without insurance.
It's not bad enough that he would drive away from an accident that the report implies was his fault.
It's not bad enough that the car wasn't roadworthy.
It's not bad enough that he's not even got a license.
but he deliberately drove away from an accident where he had knocked somebody down and could hear them screaming.
