Hein G: leathers

Just a quick moan, I have a set off HG leathers that i bought in feb 2003 and last year I noticed that the stiching was coming apart at one of the seams, so off i trot to the local HG in Welling and get told that their guarantee was for only one year .

In January I purchased a intercom system for me and the boy for our weekly trip up to the mighty Millwall This lasted about 4 trips ,so off I trot back to HG last night to complain and was told "No problem sir bring it back with your reciept and we will change it for you straight away". So why am I ****ed off you say, I'll tell you why, I was then informed by a very chirpy chappy " Everything has a year guarantee except for Hg gear wich is two years".

Got home and dug out the Invoice for the leathers to discover that I bought them on the 16 Feb 2003 Does anyone think I might get away with it

Try it! Explain the situation. They can only say no. I have dealt with HG Southampton and HG Portsmouth and both have been stirling. Obviously HG Portsmouth were better.

i bet they were curvy and not pointy as well.



in my limited experience Hein Gericke seem to be really good about things like this, especially if its one of their own products.

if they recognise you, and feel in a good mood theyll probably help

I was in this situation a short while ago, leathers just out of warranty & they fixed them for nothing anyway.

This old chesnut again - I think I ought to put something on the main site about consumer rights.

Okay, the 12 months they're referring to is simply the manufacturers guarantee and is in no way related to your consumer rights under the Sale of Goods Act. Basically there is a maximum of six years in which goods, if faulty, may be replaced or repaired depending upon their life expectancy.

It's not unreasonable for a set of leathers to last ten years, so therefore although you've run out of the manufacturer's warranty you are still entitled to expect things to be put right by the dealer from whom you bought the goods, which in this case is HG. Remember that the contract is always between you and the company that you part cash with.

So go back to HG, explain this to them (remember that the sales person, nice that they may be, is not an expert in consumer law) and politely but firmly demand they put things right.

Two things to remember: never lose your rag, and if they don't play ball, nip along to your local Trading Standards office who will be only too pleased to take your case up for you.

HG are extremely good when it comes to things like this... so i wouldnt worry.

Thanks for all the comments and the advice on consumer rights I went into HG last night and changed the intercom no problems and I am going back in on Saturday to erm sort out my leathers

Now for the guys in HG Welling I know you are reading this, and in my first post I was in no way trying to slag anyone off all I was after was a bit of advice, if the post didnt come across that way then I apologise. (By the way the bulbs on my clocks blew last night, thanks for the jinx )
