Hi, had small off this morning, to the left, and the R&Gs took all the force and not scratches on bike at all exept for gear leaver which i just replaced. Now the front brakes are not working, even though it fell to the left, there are no marks on the discs or the calipers and the brake level is fine in the resevoir?? any help would be appreciated. thanks

How far over did the bike go, and did the brake lever get squeezed when it was on it's side? I'm no expert, but it might be possible that if the bike was lent over far enough, the brake fluid in the resevoir could have droped bellow the hole that leads to the master cylinder, introducing air.
Just a thought, I'm sure someone more experienced will be able to correct me ![]() |

it went all the way over and yes i was squeezing the brake at the time...there is no leak or anything... but it is spongy, firms up with a bit of pumping and then goes spongy again as soon i start riding..

Maybe that's it then. Have you tried bleeding the brakes? Might well cure the problem.

No it's not difficult. Get yourself down to halfwits and buy yourself some dot4 brake fluid and a cheap bleeding kit, shouldn't set you back more than £10 and you can (providing it is air in the system) fix the bike in 10mins. Careful not to spill the brake fluid though, horrible stuff.

Bled the brakes, but then as soon as i push the bike fwd or back they go spongy again? bike stand still and they fine, but move and they go sponge. Also the tick tick noise is comin from front when wheel turns and i think is the brake pad lightly touching disc every rev, so thought disc might be bent, but looks perfect straight and no marks on it. The old man tells me very unlikely to bend the disc...When i wiggle the caliper in my hand there is tiny bit of play.but really a tiny bit so maybe this is my prob. Just weird how brakes are fine until i move the bike.

Try applying hte brakes lightly and pushing it forward- see if it grips in some places but not others. If you've definately got no leaks, then logically the fault has to be in the calipers, discs or MC. I doubt it's the MC, since you landed on the right, and the system still bleeds- makes me wonder if either the disc's bent or the caliper mounting plate is. Your symptoms are weird though...

Thanks northwind, you were spot on, dropped the bike off at shop this am and they called me back to say disc is warped! Explains the tick tick sound and the spongy brakes even after bleeding them. £170 squids later- ouch! Could have been worse, not a scratch on the bike otherwise...anyway I now know how to change a gear selector lever, bleed the brakes and I how to fall off a bike!
