Default Race bodywork for the road?

Hell, and apologies if this duplicates a previous thread, but I couldn't find one anywhere.

I am looking to purchase an SV650s shortly. However, whilst I don't mind the semi faired lood, I do think the lower farings look extremely cheap and mismatched, as if they were designed by someone who hadnt seen the rest of the bike when asked to draw them up.

I have noticed on some of the tuners sites, that race bodywork is available, and to my eyes looks more attractive than a semi faired with lowers.

Does anyone use one of these on the road? If so, how easy was the conversion, how long did it take? I see that some of the aftermarket body kits even have pre prepared holes for lights, and I have seen some bikes looking almost Ducati 916'ish.

I have an ebay bid in at the moment on a lightly dropped SV and plan the conversion. Does this seem like a good idea to you, or would you counsel against it?

Soory again if this duplicates a post.

Race Bodywork

I dont personally, my brother had a go at fitting a race fairing to a crash damaged RVF he rebuilt, he gave up and took it back and had a refund

1. It didnt fit anywhere near properly
2. The finish on it was awful
3. It was very thin and flimsy and he felt it would vibrate itself to bits during normal road use

Crash Damage

How bad is it, yes it might say lightly crash damaged, but are you sure, has the seller had it checked out professionaly.. to be honest I would suggest you go and view it before you buy / bid it could be hiding something nasty.

Just my 2pence worth

Thanks for the replys.

Er, having dropped a mates brand new SV about 4 years ago (he wasn't pleased) from stationary, the crack appeared in the bodywork where the indicator had folded into the fairing. The one I identifed on Ebay has exactly the same fault.

I had assumed that race bodywork would be flimsier than road, simply weight saving and quality alone suggest this was always likely to be the case. Trouble is I tend to use the bike throughout the year and appreciate the protection of a fuller fairing, as well as thinking the lowers on the older Sv's look completely bobbins.

The obvious answer is to look at a bike that provides for a full factory fairing, but to be honest, I like the idea of a twin, and looking also for a smallish and lightweight bike with a lowish seat height. If it wasnt for the fairing issue, an SV would be completely ideal. It's going to replace a GPZ500s, which for its weight, size and useable power made a great first bike.

Oh, and on a pure vanity level, I'm not worried by colours ect, would be looking to have the bodywork painted in white, as I always loved the look of those VFR750's in white.

http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/start.htm for the 2wheeljunkies bodywork. Also, try a forum search for poly 26:

I'm going for the same look as you, perhaps we can arrange something to save money. There's already a group by being orginised on the poly parts.

The 2wheeljunkies kit is the look I'm after, and oddly enough found the link to this forum from their site. It's nice to have a continuous look to the flanks of the fairing, rather than that "slash" or join, between the original nose fairing and the lowers.

I'll let you know how I get on with my purchasing. But a white SV with a full fairing would look good though wouldn't it!

Im on the hunt for an sv at the moment and im in the same ballpark as you juju, i much prefer the look of a fully faired sv, it looks alot more sporty and aggresive with a flush full fairing.

Well if that makes 3 of us going to JHS for full fairing perhaps we can sort out a deal.

I'm one stage ahead of you two, i've got the SVS, now i just want it looking smart(er)

I suspect that at the moment it'd be cheaper to import from 2WJ, with the dollar being so weak... You'd need to check out the tax issues of course.

I like that tail section. I was looking for some seat cowls that gave that image, but, all i could find were ones that had the exact shape of the rear seat. I guess I have to replace the whole tail, huh?
