Default Tax Disc - Where do you put yours?

I want it out of the way and my holder isn't the nicest looking thing.

You do have to display it don't you?

It's meant to be on the left hand side of the bike and forwards of the negine. Given the large amounts of fairing on many modern bikes, this pretty much goes out of the window.

Mine is currently on my radiator, but I'll probably move it to where the pillion pegs join the frame.

yes
left hand side is considered the best place as Mr Plod can see it as you go past, otherwise you may get a tug especially if they are operating one of those check points where a couple of them stand a hundred yards up the road & radio the details of those they want stopping to the check point further down the road

mine is next to the chain guard, but I have seen them plastered all over bikes, inside screens, bolted onto the bottom of the number plate , etc

Most bike coppers are OK, they know that tax discs get nicked, especially around town, and that quite a lot of bikers carry them in their pocket. However out of town this is less common.

I put my new disc on on Saturday, washed the bike Sunday evening & now its almost illegible - anyone know where I stand on this - does it have to be readable

Sorry to say this... I love the Dutch system. Pay straight to inland revenue and don't have a tax disc - they know when you're being naughty and just send you fines thorugh the post...

(Although not having a SORN system wuld suck if your bikes off the road for any period of time...)

just seen this thread and got me wondering, whats the law about carrying Tax Discs in your wallet or putting them under the seat , just so it doesnt get nicked ?

Have thought about it but thought against it, but would rather keep it in a safe dry place , so would like to know for when my renewal comes around

It's illegal not to have a valid tax disc on display.
Ian's way of making a colour copy and keeping the original hidden seems good, cos then you're less likely to get a pull for not displaying, but you won't lose your original.

Ian's idea seems good , suppose you could say on the copy 'original with rider' for what its worth
