This is how the oil from the engine spreads when you do a do something as SILLY as not putting the oiler filler cap on properly. It's safe to say it goes every where
![]() Running late for work yesterday because I'd lost track of the time after I decided to split and clean the rear caliper so I could changed the rear pads(pins stuck). Opps I've got to do my daily checks check tyre , oil etc. Oil needed 'topping up' but in my rush I for got to do the filler cap up. Most days I'll surf the first 'round about' I get to and maybe the one at the M23/A23 junction but today decided not to. Down the M23 into the A23(coulsdon) the lightat the junction Star Lane went red. Stopped put my foot down and it slipped a bit. Funny that I thought. it's a dry day and road looks okay. Look down to the right and there is oil every where. Pulled into the BP garage next to the lights and now I'm woried about how much oil I've got left and subsequent damage that might have accured if I happendedto have lost most of it. Let bike cool down for a bit , check oil level and was middle of the upper and lower. Phew... not too bad then just a small matter off getting recovered and losing a days work ![]() Joke Bit - Rang the RAC and told the guy on the other line what had happened. RAC: 'Have you got the filler cap with you?' he proceeded to ask me ![]() ![]() RAC: Okay Sir we'll send a patrol out to you Me: Could you please send a patrol that is able to recover the bike cos it's not going anywhere but back home. RAC: I'm afraid sir I'll have to send a patrol and if he can't fix it we'll send a recovery down. Me: Look I've just explained to you the situation and the fact that the bike/me is covered in oil and you still insist on wasting time sending a patrol which may or may not be able to recover the bike? RAC: Sorry Sir that is all we can do. The patrol might be able to fix it and clean the bike up for you(seriously ![]() Me: Ok I've had enough. Could you please give me your name and where you are based. Just send someone down. Wrote it down and sat down to wait for the patol. Luckily the patrol guy is a biker and always rings the the 'broken down' bikers straight away to find out exactly what the problem is(don't sem to tust the call centre folks too much ![]() Moral of the story is 'Stop and check if something feels a bit 'off'. I always say that to folks but obviously did not adhere to my own advice on this occasion. Could have been ![]() Cheers Ben NB: Top Box was deliberately left out of the pic to make sure Jonboy did not bring his breakfast back up or (God forbid) choke on it ![]() |

Another lesson.
Never, never, rush maintenance. Always allow plenty of time so you can check and double check. Take it easy Ben Scoobs. |

Yes you are lucky, this looks quite nasty. Good luck getting the oil off the tyres!
