More CIA insurance

A few weeks ago I posted about the problems I've been having as a result of CIA misselling me a policy that doesn't cover my mods on the bike. I'd got a fairly insulting offer of 2/5 of the total policy as a refund, after just 60 days of cover.

Today I spoke to one of their accounts managers... The long and short of it is that we've laid out our positions and they've offered to refund basically every penny they'd have made off the policy, £360. I'm still holding out for an exact pro-rata refund of £420 to date, and as far as I'm concerned this is making a compromise as that still leaves me paying full whack for a level of cover I never received.

So, it's off to the complaints department we go, then after that's fulfilled probably off to the Ombudsman. But I should say, the guy I spoke to today was excellent and I think did everything within his power to get me the result I'm looking for- their broker made a genuine error and that's unfortunate but I've given the company excessively harsh treatment so far I'm pretty impressed with the efforts they've made so far. He was happy enough to get right into the details of the policy and worked with me tosee what bits we could save to reduce the refunds, and he was totally honest in setting out exactly what his limits were, no haggling or percentages kept in reserve. Top notch.

So, CIA insurance, nothing like as bad as I may have made them out to be! But, the position now is that they're either going to have to decide to take a £60 loss now, or lose a great deal of time to drag it through the Ombudsman and then most likely face a larger loss as well as the cost of the process, so I hope they'll see sense and meet me half-way.
