Default Gear Change Lever

Well the usual Winter maintenance schedule was in order this weekend and I started with my Gear Shift Lever . This bundle of Joy has got progressively worse over the last Month . It had got to the point where any change had to be followed by me returning the lever back to it`s rest point before any other gear could be selected . So , I whip the bugger off and take it into the workshop and get some Plusgas into the bearing surface of the Lever and foot rest and give it a few whirls and my God this thing was tight . I resolved by taking the huge cap Head out of the back of the foot peg and removed the Heel Plate . I had to use a large pin punch to get the Gear Lever off the foot rest and what I found was quite alarming .

Inside the Lever is a Teflon or Kevlar sheet as a bearing surface that is folded out on the edges to provide a surface so that the Lever doesn`t wear against the Heel Plate and Foot Peg . This has basically died on me and has crumbled away to roughly half of it`s original shape . Under that , the Gear Lever had corroded badly so I cleaned it all out and lubed it accordingly and replaced as much of the Teflon/Kevlar type thing as possible . Sadly there is not enough of it left to take up the slight wobble in the Gear Lever now ............. So I dig out the trusty `Fiche and get to ordering the correct part , should only cost a couple of quid and will cure my problem . Aaaaaaaaaand it`s not there in the parts list or diagram .......................Ar5e .

I might get one of those baking sheets that are meant for the oven and cut one of these out of it , I could cut an oblong , score the edges to flap them over the edge of the gear lever and cut a couple of notches so it will fold around without creasing .

They work fine without the fibre bearing thing if you keep a bit of grease on there

I have some grease on it mate , just concerned about the Wobblyness of the lever on the Perch , I just find it weird that they don`t have a part for it listed in the `Fiche . I did try to make a washer for it out of a fibre washer but it was too thick and was binding again ..... I couldn`t be bothered spending too much time on it for a fix that was not gonna be on there for long anyway . It also answered my own question about whether it was worth putting a small grease/zerk nipple on there . It isn`t due to the Teflon bearing surface . I`ll get a sheet of baking teflon and cut one out of that , heck I may even make a few and ebay them

I might even research better foot peg/gear lever combos as well as the SV foot pegs look shabby on my bike now .
