Overdue First Service - SV650.org

Being the lazy fool that I am my K4 SVS has now reached the 750 mile mark and has still not had its first service. I contacted the dealer I bought it from to book it in only to be informed they are only taking bookings after June 30th!!!! So my question is this; is it ok for me to still use my bike for the next month or so (possibly taking it over the 1000 mile milestone) or do I need to get it serviced asap? I'm tighter than a duck's bum and my 1st service at the dealer would be free. There is another dealer near me but I haven't checked their availability yet. And yes I could have booked it in a while ago but I'll reiterate I'm a lazy so and so.

At least do the oil and filter change yourself then. It's easy. The rest of the service is just checks. If you then tell the workshop that you have done it then they won't charge you for that labour at least.

Try the other dealer but you may have to pay for it as they didn't sell you the bike.

I would do as thor said, oil and filter yourself, let the original dealer do the other checks for free when they can book it in.

Our Seat Toledo was almost 3000 miles and 3 months overdue its first service when we bought it. The local dealer said it wouldn't invalidate the warranty as long as we got it done asap, which we did.

Unless you're the kind of rider that really thrashes it, an extra 250 miles won't hurt.

If you are, or you're in doubt, like the others say, the oil and filter are the critical parts. You can leave the rest.

Change the oil even if not the filter. If you go to 1000 miles without a service the chances are you'll invalidate your warranty.

Get it done one way or the other if you want to keep your warranty.If you did have a problem during the warranty period and they had a good excuse to not honour it you could well find yourself with a big bill.

I would definitely change the oil and filter ASAP.

Is it just me or does anyone else think having to wait over a month for a first service is a bit of a joke? Considering a first service is supposed to be done at 600 miles and most people would be able to do that in a month, especially at this time of the year, no dealer should expect someone to have to wait over a month to then have the bike serviced, otherwise people would have to book before the've even taken the keys for the bike.

Alvins didn't have much of a waiting list 2 weeks ago, if they're the other shop...

Alternatively, if they're the shop with teh waiting list, they've been known to be flexible with services- they happily stamped my book for the 11000 miler even though I'd done some of the straightforward work myself, so it might be worth talking to them and seeing if you can reach a compromise. Occasionally they remember that good customer service gets them more business

It's a 3 week waiting list where I just bought my bike. Booked the service the moment I got home after collecting the bike.
What has the world come to?

Cheers everyone. I've actually hardly rode the bike in the past 2 weeks because I was scared of damaging it in some way. I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to fiddling with mechanical stuff, even if it just an oil change. Probably just try the other dealer (Alvins). Thanks again.
