Default How do you 'clean' tyres?

Coming home from work I yesterday I approached a traffic light at about 10 mph when I use the rear brake lightly to stop, but instead of coming to a gentle stop the back end decides to slide out and I finish with the back end about a foot out. Then later when turning into a side street I saw a pothole so decided to slow down a bit and go around it and again the back end decided to slide out, and I only tapped the rear brakes.

When I got off the bike my right boot also felt a little slippery but there doesn’t appear to be anything unusual on the tyre or my boot. Luckily I was taking it very easy anyway as I had a mate following me in a car but I don’t want to go out on the bike again without doing something about this just in case I end up going down.

So how can I ‘clean’ the tyres just in case they are contaminated with something?

Providing nothing is leaking onto your tyre normal riding will clean it up very quickly.Have you checked your tyre pressures and rear wheel alignment? Also rear brake grabbing, check all bolts are tight and pads OK?

Use wasing up liquid (fairy that stuff), then make sure you wash it off. It should take all the grease if any that is on your tyre.

Not hand wash stuff as that is slightly diffrent. The stuff you wash plates.

As Biggles said, but if you want to at least make sure to get the worst of it off, a rag with petrol is good for cleaning oil or whatever off of tyres.

Like the idea but since I also like the Avon Vipers I've had put on, and my clutch , I think I'll just wash them with fairy liquid.

And a scrubbing brush works well. Make sure that you hoze off the fairy liquid, it's full of salt.
