Default fz6 fazer vs sv650s?

first of all hello to everybody in this great forum, i've been reading around for a week or so and today i decided to register. I have a fazer 600 for about a year but i really don't think that IL4's are for me, not this one anyway (power band:7000-14000rpm ). So i'm thinking of trading for an sv650s, i love V2's, i used to own a le mans 850 II, they are a lot easier and safer for the roads here in greece (need every bit of traction you can find). Another think is that IL4's bring out the hooligan in you and you find yourself travelling with the speed of light next to cars travelling with the speed of snale, your actually invisible to them. Anyway, i need help cause i don't want to trade my bike again in a year. A guy who owned a 03 sv said there's a power hole at 5-7000rpm, my fazer also had this problem, in tight slipery corners it wasn't wise to fall in it. So is it also a big problem in the sv? And can a slip on fix it with out reprogramming or power commander? I know the sv is a lot weeker than the fazer but the 98hp are hard to put on the road. I've test-riden the vstrom650 cause nobody has an sv for testing (they don't sell a lot here) and i liked it , the power is enough for the twisty roads i like. Well i'll stop here i could be typing all day long about bikes and places they've taken me, looking forward for ANY suggestions.

I've not noticed any power hole in my K5 SV. It really starts pulling from 5000 rpm and then really takes off from about 7000. The feel of it pretty much matches the dyno curves I've seen.

The Dl650 is a fantastic bike, i would have one if it wasnt so pig ugly. It has the same basic set up of engine, suspension etc, so if you liked that, then you will like the SV.

There is a slight dip in the rev range, this is due to the bike having to pass emmisons tests around the world. It can be removed using a slip on(Well, a race can of some sort, it needs to be cut off) and without programming. However, to get the best form the can, you can either add a power commander, or over here its best to have the current ecu programmed using whats called a Yoshi box(i believe) Any of the 2 will see you smile.

As for conering, the sv can be sorted by raising the back end up a little using shorter suspension links, and sorting the front out with some springs and oil replacement. Or if you have the money, chuck on an aftermarket shock etc.

All this said, i really do like the current Fazer styling. Just hope that they do the same to the Thou, then i think it may be my next bike.

Welcome to the board by the way

great, thanks for the info about the DL being similar to the sv. I'm sure the fazer thou will be a great bike with a great engine but my 600 desperatelly needed 5mm lowering in front, ohlins front springs and one tooth less front sprocket and still...i don't like it

The engine's a little different, the DL and SV have different cams. Sv's tuned more for power, Dl for midrange.

just to reinforce, my sk3 has no such power hole anywhere at all. Never heard any other reports of one either.
