Default NITROUS

Your views on nitrous, on an SV650?
Is the power useable?
How does the engine and drive chain cope?
Other mods needed?

SV cranks and rods don't like too much extra power, so any real boost will be a bit risky... They say 85bhp's the limit if you want a rough rule of thumb. You could make it a bit safer with Hayabusa pistons to reduce rotating mass, that wouldn't be too pricey, but I wouldn't want to do it myself without a new crank and rods.

It'd be cool, though

Do you know if an uprated crank and rods are avaliable or would they have to be custom made?
Whats the deal with busa pistons, are they a straight swap?

Yeh it would be cool Anyone know of an SV with nitrous?

There is a thou that goes down to Poole Quay with NOS. Not seen or heard it running, though.

Couple of places make cranks for the SV, Falicon also make a stroker crank to increase displacement to 700cc with the stock bores... Or 750 with the big bore kit Same with the rods, Carillo and Falicon both definately do, and there's others... Crower do titanium ones! But you're talking big bucks by this point.

Busa pistons more or less fit- you need to do a minor hone to the barrels, is all. They're lighter than stock and apparently give a slight compression boost- though it's hard to say that for sure since most people fitting them deck the heads at the same time. I've got it filed away under "winter projects" Ideal for me since it's power without impairing reliability, and the parts are cheap-ish.
