My dad & I have fitted the Hamicad grille set to my naked blue K4 SV650.
There is a black stiff rubber thing in kind of a half circle attached to the inside of the the forks that is rubbing against the grill set when the handle bars are turned. Anyone know if this black rubber thing is important? Can I remove it? Can I cut it to make it shorter? Has anyone else had the same issue when fitting the grill set? The grill set does look the nuts..Very happy with it ![]() Regards Neil

What does it actually do though? There must be a reason why it's there or is it purely cosmetic?
Regards Neil

I think it is to protect the lower bearing for the steering head, keeping away water and grit thrown up from the front wheel.
I wondered about it too when I mounted my GSX-R forks, because the plastic protector didn't fit on them. With the original forks the plastic hit the hamicad grill on mine too. Not a big problem though. |

I have only just noticed it rubbing on the grill. Instead of taking it completly off you could always give the end a trim so they don't touch.

So is the general opnion that it will be OK to trim it?
Just wish I knew what it was for?

Hi
Are you referring to the black rubber guard (sits between the forks, quite near the top) that prevents all the crap being flung off of the front wheel getting up past the rad and into the lower head bearings? You should be ok to trim that back a little as you have got the fenda extenda to prevent the fling-off getting right up past the rad. |

Cheers Deano,
![]() If it is to stop the crap being flung off of the front wheel and getting up past the rad and into the lower head bearings then as I have a fender extender why cant I just remove it? The fender extender should give me the protection I need should it not? aaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !

Thought I would surprise you!
![]() ![]() You could take it off, but I personally would just trim it back enough to give clearance of the rad grill cover. You want to afford as much protection to the bearings as possible, and trimming it back would be the more sensible thing to do. If you were to sell the bike you could always buy another plastic protector to replace the one you trimmed. If you remove the protector, I don't know how much Suzuki would charge you for new bearings. Haaaammmmm, cheese and pickle purleeeeeeaaassseeeee! |
