Been test riding a lot of bikes over the last two weeks, looking for something to use as a weekend plaything, different, able to cover some touring milagw, also resonable comfort (im 6ft 2, 14.5 stone)
Tried a falco, but feel to bits on the test, Fazer Thou fabulous by insurace is a concern, Thundercat v nice but sold befor I could make an offer (may look slightly further afield for a decent one) CBR600F did not gel, Z750 to much wid blast etc Whilst looking around I have stumbled upon a BWM R1100S with heated grips and ABS. I have read up on the bike as I have never ridden a shaft drive but am asking you guys for any comments pros - Comfortable Reliable Different (we all want something that attract attention in the cafe car park) capable No chain maintenance cons Heavy potentially down on power (98bhp but i belive shaft drive can seriously affect this) Shaft Drive (unfamiliar) Quirky indicator controls no underseat storage (so Im told) I am yet to ride this machine but welcome advice comments etc in advance Thanks |

from pillion perspective: torquey bikes, bit vibey around 4000rpm. not much more performance wise than an sv. paint and finish is quite nice.
be aware of final drive, seal and bearing issues. my dad has an 18month old r1150s and he's just about had enough. returned 6 times in the last month. he's planning on changing to a cb1300s. panos of rospa fame (http://www.roadatvg.org.uk/) has eaten 4 rear bearings in less than twelve months. know a lot of beemer owners and these arent one off issues, only seems to effect the newer bikes somehow. give one a go. but be aware of astro servicing costs an all, ta, will |
