Well jonboy I thought A brand new gixxer would be out of the question but having spoken to my insurance company all they want is another £95 for A new K5 750.I have 7k to play with so it gives me alot of options and I have no idea where to start
Anyone got any tips on buying privately, as I've seen some very nice bikes in MCN
These are a few I've been looking at CBR900,Tuono, GSXR750, with 2 bikes I've been thinking about RSV1000 and the boys in green ZX6R. My insurance company said there was no limit on cc only the type of bike which would make a diff on my insurance, so I have to look for 2 or 3 bikes that I would like and then phone back with the price (mileage if used)etc

buying privately... see annas bad week post in IB. Remember, despite people saying otherwise you DONT have any recourse against the owner unless they have blatantly lied about the description of the bike. If you buy sold as seen you really wont have any comeback against the seller.

Even if you do know a lot about bikes, always worth having someone there as a witness to whats been said and prudence would say its wise to HPI the bike for any finance/write off info IF its on there but dont rely on it being a clean slate.

Check frame/engine numbers to the V5.

Research the bikes you want. Know what to look for on the model your looking at for damage, wear and faults eg rectifiers on older CBRs, fairing cracks from track day damage etc etc. Talking from a position of knowledge could help you barter the price a little lower.

Cat C/D write offs which are repaired properly would be ok but you should be told if it is and the price should be dropped accordingly.

I know its not cheaper price wise but Ive always bought from a dealer. Glad I did. Got warranty on the 2nd hand SV which saved me a packet when the rectifier went, and the battery etc.

I hate my insurance company They keep changing their mind
Had a nice test ride on the Tuono today and found it to be a very nice Bike they have reduced the price on new ones to £6895 but at £5999 FROM Geogre White it would be them I would buy from....but my insurance company won't even look at me with one of those so thats out the window. But they will insure me on a new GSXR750 or a used CBR900RR so unless something else hits me over the next week or so I will have to chose one of those and then onto the hard part........ Colour!!!!!!!!

aprilia's are classed as 'exotica' usually, hence scary insurance quotes for them.
