Has anyone heard of any V4's being made by slinging together two 650's or even two 1000's? Would this even be possible?

As the cylinders are offset I reckon it would be almost impossible, and the cost of doing so would be astronomical without any great benefit. If you want a V4 then Honda is the way to go.

Interesting idea, can't see it happening though.
It would be a very difficult thing to do though, even if the twin heads would fit between the frame rails, (which I doubt), you'd at least need to join two sets of crankcases together, but even then the gearbox may need to be relocated as the chassis is quite slim so the case offset may be too great even with the output shaft extended, but that would make the primary drive awkward of course, that's all before you get to the crank, many of the other bikes that have had Frankenstein motors made for them have pressed up cranks unlike the SV, so it wouldn't just be a matter of pressing a suitable pile of bits from multiple cranks, so that means a custom crank, it's beginning to get real expensive now, (actually it already was).

It'd be cheaper and easier to buy a GP bike... and you might even get an extra cylinder for free

Are Ducati going to produce a road going version of their V4 GP bike? Any other V4's that aren't Hondas? - Honda are just not my cup of tea... not quite sure why.

not many manufacturers produce road modles of current gp bikes as that would basically be giving their moto GP competition a detailed look at the bike there running. they may release it after it has had a shot at the gp but not at the same time. Suzuki only released the gixxer range after a while and now they dont use it in moto GP, they use the GSVR (which you'll like as its a great big 1000 V4) Hope that helped TRICK ![]() ![]() |
