Default gixer rear shock

Can any one tell me whether the GSXR 600 rear shock will bolt straight onto a 99 svs?

I'm lead to understand that the 2001 - on ones do but I've only read conjecture.

I know on the US site there is a Race firm that revamp them specifically for bike & rider but I don't know if that includes changing fittings. I also wonder if there's room for the adjuster bits atop the gixer unit.
Cheers

don think so, srad ones are what you need for curveys. They are a tad old so have a look at zx686 shocks.

Do a search on the site theres quite a few charts floating around which tell you the length of all the different shocks so you can gauge which size is best for your bike and weight. With 9 out of 10 shocks you'll need to cut the battery box though.

The worst shock for fittment is a ZX686 (the year i dont know), one of the series have the oil resovoir pointing towards the back of the bike and angled a tad up, it makes it impossable for the battery to be under the front seat and will have to be relocated to the rear seat, and the tool kit goes under the front seat (leaving two allen keys under the rear seat to get to the tool kit in the front). Its an ar$e, but works well.

I beg to differ on that one mate. I've got a ZX636 shock fitted, yes the battery box needed a little trimming, and the battery is still under the front seat. It is not completely upright but fits nicely on top of a little platform, keeping it off the shock resevoir.

Alternatively, a battery from an R1 will fit in the original battery position as it is a thinner battery.

PeterM: There are diffrent ZX636 shocks, there is one with a larger resovoir than the other and i have the larger one (one model looks the same as GSXR shock the other the res points backwards and upwards. I tried every way possable to fit it, it just would not fit very well. Even with it resting on the shock the seat would not close.

The general concensous is not to change the battery to one with a lower rating (as the R1 is i beleave) in the UK as we use diffrent oil from warmer climates and increases the starting load and also our cold spells could easly kill the battery more often than normal.

Maybe a useful link... www.svraceshop.com. They do a rebuilt GSXR shock with a revalve, lengthen, and sometimes new spring, for the SV. $340, which comes to about £200. They also sell ally brackets to replace the normal tank hinge, makes reservoired shocks easier to install.

I'll say get a proper shock(Emulsion type). I'm deciding on a shock myself for my other bike.

Have a look at prices for the WP or Technoflex.

You can get the ones with just a rebound adjuster. With the Technoflex (think I'm correct) it's built to the spec you want ie length , correct spring , etc.

I'll try and get some phone numbers for you if you decide to go that route.
Also Vic Lamb Developements are having 10% off the WP shock but there is another dealer that might be cheaper.

Cheers
Ben

Drop Careless Chukka a bell, he's got one for the SV... They've got a good name. (well, they've got a terrible name- White Power? Jeezus...)

I like my Ohlins It was cheap and it looks brilliant. Works not too bad either...
