I changed the plugs on my bike the other day and while i was at it i decided to test the carb heaters and thermoswitch to make sure they're workign as i've been having massive carb icing problems. (tank and airbox off the bike)
Reassembled the bike and it started up and sounded great, revved a lot more healthily, left it runnign for a few minutes then hopped on and tried to drive to work. About a half a mile down the road, the engine revved eratticaly then just stopped (in traffic, not fun). Coasted into the side of the road and it started again after a minute or so. same thing happened again further up the road, it took 4 stop/start attempts to get about 2 miles to a place i could lock up the bike and get a cab on to work. tried to get it home that night but it wouldnt even go 20 metres without stalling, and flattened the battery with all the stopping and starting so i left it in a mates back yard. I charged the battery and went back and got it started, it will run perfectly in neutral on the sidestand for ages even revving the hell out of it, but as soon as you start moving it cuts out within metres. Anyone got any ideas? electrical short, fuel starvation? |

I had exactly the same prob with my GPz. Wouldn't idle when hot but ran fine at revs. Would cut out at the lights. If plugs are good then it is the leads...Changed and then worked. Wouldn't start from hot easy either.

No it'll idle fine while stationary, problem only happens once you start moving, then when it cuts out it takes ages to start again.
I though it was fuel starvation but it ran on the sidestand for 5 minutes just fine |

I had a similar problem with mine.
Specifically it was OK until I SAT on it. It turned out it was the wiring loom under the rear of the tank / drivers seat - when there was weight on the seat the bare loom touched the frame and killed the engine. It might help you..... |

I had to replace the sidestand springs in mine cause they were weak.
the sidestand would occasionally drop and the engine would cut out |

could be crap in the main fuel jets.....only used when in motion.....did that on my gpz. idle jets work at idle (funny enough) but a speck of muck could hold the needle open.
Also could be a kinked breather pipe of some sort... |

I'll strip it down again tomorrow and recheck all the connections and hoses aswell to see if there's any kinks. |

have you trapped a wire under the tank when replacing it?
