I have read Sport Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch and Total Control by Lee Parks, both are very helpful for all aspects of riding. Another classic is A Twist of the Wrist by Keith Code. I haven't read it myself, but many people have commented on in usefullness.

Another way is to go to a race school or trackday. This year, I'll be going to Ron Haslams Race School to try and improve my riding and experience the track for the first time.

California Superbike School. Not cheap but meant to be the best.

A track day might help... but i wouldnt spend any money on race schools. No point learning lines if you're not comfortable leaning the bike.

Best way to learn? Practice.

Just to add to what Squirrel added, CSS is NOT a race school, levels 1 & 2 are aimed at getting the rider to corner confidently and accurately.

OK, as it's on a track you may take racing lines into the bends, but the concentration is on technique. My cornering is crap, so I'm doing a CSS day this year.

I recommend Total Control by Lee Parks too - got it at Xmas and whilst there's nothing exceptional in there (have seen most bits before elsewhere) it's pretty concise and puts it in a simple and quite brief way. Plus it's got a lot more than just cornering.

Ah ok. Still, I'm sceptical about how much help it'll be to a new rider... but not having done it I could of course, be wrong.

Do a couple of 1-2-1 days advanced training. Tell your instructor your not happy with cornering at speed. I did this, we spent 1 day doing high speed stuff (i wasnt too comfterable with that either) then we moved onto cornering and spend a day doing twisties with different lines and techniques, which you can put togeather for different situations.

Plus you can work out any other little problems you have, or your instructor will tell you bad habbits etc and generally give you advice.

the bikesafe course run by the police helped me hugely with cornering confidence, as well as a host of other m/cycling tips etc.

google "bikesafe". as you are in london, you'll find them at ace cafe (NW London) or somehwere near Bromley.

30 quid very well spent, and they make it quite good fun too.

I'm getting the impression I'm the only one who found bikesafe utterly pointless
