Default First Bike on Scene

just for info in case anyone had thought of doing some first aid training.

The Lancashire Ambulance Service training courses are doing a "2 for 1" special offer for bookings made before March.

It also looks like the scheme may actually be taken up by other regions too.

As a matter of interest, a good friend and former colleague is now a Clinical Paramedic Tutor with Lancs Amb Serv. He's a top guy as well as being one of the best paramedics I've ever worked with. If he's anything to do with this course, and he probably will be, it will be well worth going along.

IMHO everyone should have at least a basic knowledge of what to do in the event of an accident.

I was vaguely aware of these courses but hadn't really looked into doing one.

I'll definitely be doing so now and have posted an invitation in the Pennine Massive section of the forum for others to do so - the invite is open to other forum members of course, i just figured i'd post it there because the centre running the course is in Preston

Do other ambulance services run this course, or only Lancs?

I'm currently trying to bully Gloucestershire into running something similar but as yet no joy. This may be down to the fact we are currently undergoing a merger with Avon and Wiltshire so Glos don't want to commit to another venture. The merger goes live in April so with a bit of luck there may be something positive to report back soon after that.

I have, personally, given presentations on this subject to various bike clubs in the area. This is done outside of the ambulance service at no cost to the participants ( aside from moderate expenses). If there was enough interest I could possibly run something in or around Gloucester, Bristol or Chepstow.

Anyone interested PM me.

If you don't have a very good level of first aid skills then you NEED to get on this course. The course is done specifically for bikers so you don't get any irrelevant bullsh1t.

Don't forget, if your mate drops it while you are out on a ride it would be you who would have to look his missus in the eye and explain why you couldn't help him.

I'd be worried that in these litigious times doing the best to help save someone from injury or death could well result in being on the wrong side of a personal injury claim!

Thats the wrong attitude to have. The possibility of saving someones life against the risk of a PA claim surely outweigh each other.

If someone took that attitude towards an accident i was involved in which i survived without their help they'd be on the wrong end of my fist for being a weed.

definitely interested, there's so many of us that ride together that we'd hopefully never have to be on our own to do something like this in a crisis, how much does it extend into normal first aid?

do you get a certificate of anything? my actual first aid has long since expired

With a bit of luck, the UK government will introduce a "Good Samaritan" law like that of some US states (or is it Canada?) whereby anyone in an accident CANNOT sue a person administering first-aid in good faith.

In France, all first-aiders are registered with the police and failure to attend an accident will result in proseccution if witnessed.

Cheers,

Garry
