Default My motorcycle maintenance course...

Just though I'd drop a line or two about my Bike maintenance course (which is now drawing to a close - only 2 weeks left now )

I felt awesome last night as (for the first time ever,) I completely stripped, cleaned, re-sealed & re-oiled the forks on the 'divvy 600' my mate has lent me Granted, not a big job for those in the know, but I was chuffed to monkies with it

Gone has the feeling of 'Oh my god, what do I do if this need servicing etc' The bike course has inspired my & given me the confidence to do more than just bolt-on goodies - they're well worth doing (if you can get on one in your area )

I even asked the course tutor if he'd be interested in running a longer course, say 36 weeks, where perhaps people could buy an MOT failure, or a cat 'C' or 'D' write off & do it up... I'd certainly sign up for that

You're lucky. The local college/uni here used to do a few similar courses (including a fantastic one on classic cars which I was using to work on my MG) but cancelled all of them due to rampant Health and Safetyism.

They basically weren't comtent with the students signing wavers and spending the first evening of the course going over workshop safety - oh no.
They instituted a three month long health and safety course that had to be completed and passed before anyone could sigh up to any other workshop course. Cost = £85

Oh yeah, and you were no longer allowed to undertake any practical work on your own vehicles (car or bike). You could only practise on bits provided by the college.

Needless to say, no-one signed up for the Health & Safety course so all other courses were cancelled.

Would that be Nene College then K

I did the Vehicle Maintainence course, which also means (according to my tutor) that when I get my certificate, if I service the car or bike whilst in warrently, it's still valid! Woo Hoo!
