To follow on from my troubles here. I finally managed to get the front spark out. But first I had to disconnect the two wires for the fan and the radiator, and push the radiator down and out of the way so that i could reach the plug with my socket.
In the process, it seems I have slightly loosend the join of the large radiator pip on the left side of the bike (looking forward). The pipe was already sitting inside another larger diameter pipe (is this normal?), but the join seems a little loosened. What can I us to resear just in case? Is the silicon sealant from a DIY shop good enough? Secondly, about plugs. The rear plug had black oily deposits, but not too much. The front plug had a bit more, but also little solid pieces on the rim of the plug. What does this mean? I'm looking to get the Iridum plugs to help with cold starting. |

I don't think you have a plug problem per se.
When looking at plug condition, you are looking, NOT at the metal body, but at the deposits on the insulator and at the electrode condition. In any event, if the engine has been running roughly before you took the plugs out, you won't be able to tell a whole lot....not unless they're well melted anyway! For sure, new plugs won't hurt and Iridium plugs may help (been loads of posts on that topic), but if you have a basic fuelling or ignition problem, that's the bit you've got to fix....and it's done by working methodically through everything in those systems . Remember, until a certain time, it was working well. So don't leap in and make huge changes to basic settings....look for the thing that has altered and fix that. |

I did the plugs on mine last weekend, the front one was as rusty as hell and the bike was running fine with it.
As for your radiator, just loosen the clip and push the pipe back on and tighten it back up again. Mine got an uncheduled coolant change as well cos I got ****ed off faffing about and took the rad of completly ![]() ![]() |

The bits around the side of the plug could just have been grit front the plug hole. If they are black, then your bike is running a little rich. They should be whiteish/brown
