Default euro-driving

hi all

been at the motor show in geneva for the last few days.. had a great time

the day after we went to the show we hired a car and drove from geneva to monaco via the mont-blanc tunnel, turin and genoa...

the standard of driving in switzerland, france and italy leaves a lot to be desired! i was expecting swiss drivers to be courteous and law-obeying.. nothing could be further from the truth, they all drive like lunatics!

i was overtaking a lorry in the left (outside) lane of one of the italian autostrade at about 140km/h and still they tailgate you at that speed, flashing their lights until you move over

an exciting experience all in all, monaco is amazing.. some of the yachts and cars.. spotted a shelby cobra, ferrari 456, mercedes/mclaren SLR, about a dozen porsche GT3's, lambos, rolls royces, a koenesigg.. a completely different world.. and some of the scenery around southern france/northern italy is to die for!

highly recommended!

Agree Monaco is a nice place. One of my cousins keeps a villa there. plus a house on Sark, apartments in New York and San Francisco. BTW he is considerably richer than me.

Police are not to bad. Got told off by them for riding upto the Cafe de Paris by the Big Casino as bikes are not allowed there for some reason.

Never drove in Swizerland as their public transport is so good. My train was a minute late leaving Zurich station for the airport and the driver apologised for the delay in 6 languages.

yes, the trains in geneva were everything ours aren't - clean, quiet and on-time to the second... i particularly liked those electric bendy-buses which run on overhead wires, ours was ~6 seconds late when taking us to the station!

to be fair our entire transport system is a disgrace compared to most of western europe... they must be laughing at us.. yes they pay a higher price but it's worth it.. mind you they don't use their road taxes to pay for wars
