Default JHS Crash bung snapped off in low speed off

Had a low speed off.

10 secs after leaving work, sharp right, cold tyres - took it too exuberantly and you know the result.

All my fault.

Was doing 5-10 mph

Unamused that the JHS crash bung set fitted by them broke off. The rod that goes through the frame and engine just snapped.

To be fair had another very low speed off on same side last winter, but it barely scratched the bung.

So need new right fairing, brake lever, back brake pedal.....jeez Just not good enough.

hope R&G hold up better!!

(ps any ideas about replacement levers etc. gratefully received.)

Yup R&G are very good although it does depend on how the bike goes down as to whether the bung stays in tact.

We get pattern lever sets in £20 for clutch and brake lever, only for the curveys though as they dont do them for the injected bikes..

mind you have now got a GSXR1000K5 radial M/C on mine...have to buy genuine levers...even being a dealer they cost me too much

Sorry to hear about your off too, Im going to be after some bungs soon for my pointy but it's amazing how many people are moaning about the standard of them & the fact that they snap off so easily, dont they have to pass any sort of testing before they are marketed.

The older JHS ones have a superb rep for the SV, but I think someone posted on here that they'd been changed... If you're looking for a replacement, try Motosliders from the states, the SV Riders are all over them, they seem solid, and they're cheap (a set of bungs, set of spare bungs, and a set of swingarm bungs plus shipping from the states cost barely more than a set of R&Gs!)

Ultimately, any bung can snap or fail, though good ones tend not to in low speeds. Take the old R&Gs, they got an absolute pasting on here but mine were indestructible- so were Jimmys, and believe me we tested them. 70mph off, £50 worth of damage? Can't complain. But then Scooby Drew had one fall off more or less when a feather fell on it. You can have 2 identical crashes and have one be fine and one break, even before you get into the chance of a meterials defect.

Have you actually spoken to JHS about it?

Thanks Everyone

Northwind: I haven't spoken to JHS. I don't live in Bristol any more.

The reason I got them is that they had a good rep. so I was surprised when they snapped. Will check out those bungs you mention from the states.

SV650Racer: cheers mate - I'm gonna fit OE as well. Never had much luck with pattern

Back on the road already!!! :P

I'd drop him a line... If it's been a manfacturing defect he'll want to know anway (assuming he's not read it here already...) and you never know, you might get a replacement.

Well as Northwind suggested I got in touch with JHS and they have been very helpful.

I must say that I bought these bungs on strong recommendations from this forum, so I was surprised the tie bar snapped.

James Holland emailed me from his holiday saying they wanted to replace the parts concerned, and Gary at JHS was really helpful getting the old crash bungs off.

The tie bar between the bungs has broken in two places.

And I found more damage. To date I will have to sort the following:

RH bar end
RH mirror
brake level
foot brake lever
RH foot peg
RH pillion rest
RH fairing
RH pillion cowl
RH black triangular vent piece

Bitching really, kind of damage you get from a major prang, but decent customer service makes a difference.....tbc
