While my 650S was being serviced (30k miles) I took an SV1000S for a ride.
Didn't blow me away which was good and bad. Good because it was VERY similar to my 650S except for a slightly sportier position but nothing drastic. Bad because I had kinda hoped that my first ride on a 1000cc bike would reveal a beast that needed taming. I found it to be very well behaved. I took it out onto a dual carriage way and whacked it open and it didn't seem much faster then my 650 yet the speedo said otherwise. So in summary I quite fancy one because it seems a sensible choice. Quicker, more torque, without being so different as to seeM alien or dangerous. Having said that, the familiarity probably makes it a more dangerous bike as I'll be all familiar with it and then promptly lob it on a corner I've done a million times on my 650S. They had a nice SK6 model in dark grey which looked ace with the black frame and black wheels. At 6K OTR I've got 6 weeks or so if i want to take advantage of the 0% APR deals. The only real probblem is I'm not a fan of the 2-into-2 exhaust. It just feels big for some reason. Dealer said he didn't know of anyone that does a 2-into-1 for it ![]() |

If you get the chance to play in the twisties, whilst it needs a bit more 'man handling', I find it much more stable in the corners - a combination of the extra weight and better suspension. And the brakes - ![]() ![]() ![]()

It'll do everything the 650 will do, but about 20 mph faster, without you noticing
![]() It's very deceptive - if you're not careful, you'll find yourself going quite a bit faster because it's so effortless |
