Default New clothes...

Having become the new "phantom", it looks like I've finally made some progress (in between a busy job, finding and buying a flat, moving twice and generally not having much time).

Several hours dodging 2-pack fumes, and the results, though unfished, are promising:

Mobile's camera doesn't do it a huge justice, but it's lacquered up to a lovely deep red. A bit of sanding and compounding still to be done, and I should have my bike back!

Looks good, are you doing all of this yourself?

It's definitely not ginger, but the phone's camera seems to give it that hue. It is definitely RED, which became very obvious once the lacquer was laid down.

Cheers. Did the panel preparation and priming myself, but then passed it over to my Uncle to do the colour. Now it's back to me for finishing.

Bloody ages! But it was my first time Rubbing the panels down didn't take too long, but I also had to source a new tank - and that did take ages to sand down because Suzuki put so much lacquer on them. I also had to get a new undertray from Ermax.

Once prepared, the priming took some time, as that was a bit of a learning process. Spray cans just don't put down enough paint or have enough puff to do a good quick job, so you have to take your time. Flattening the primer also took a long time, mainly because I cocked it up a couple of times and had to re-prime.

I would guess that if you can call 7 hours a working day, then the panel preparation took about 3 days from my novice point of view; and the colour spraying took another day. I'll probably spend another day compounding and polishing - and then another day putting it all back together again! But that's another story!

Have the solvents melted the rest of the bike? Looks damn fine... How much clear did you put on there?

I was too feart to use 2-pack, I'd have ended up a cautionary tale in a health and safety booklet...

If they melted anything - it was my brain!

I think everything got a couple of coats of clear; and probably a couple of coats of paint - just to make sure we got everything.

There are a few bits of crap stuck to the clear coat, but on the most part it looks good.
