Default Best year SV to start with?

Hello, new here and thinking about buying myself my first road bike.(i know MSF and full gear)

Anyways, ive heard the SV has its own racing class and its one of the main reasons i am looking at them. Its not too insane on power for a beginner, but has potential and an organized form of racing for when that bug will eventually get me.

Is there any year thats better then another? also how much should i expect to pay used for whichever year you guys feel would be best

The best of the curvys was the 02 plates, had the last of all the modifications and the forks came with preload caps, amongst other things. Over all the bikes are pretty much the same for curvys... can't tell you for the later pointy options...

There are two types of SV650 - the earlier, curvier model produced from 1999 to 2002, which has carbs, and the later, pointier model, which has fuel injection. Both models are available naked or half faired. TBH the differences between the model years is fairly minimal, buy one that you like the colour of and is the right price and the best condition.

With regards fuel economy, you might get slightly (and I do mean only sightly) better out of the FI model, there is no real power increase to talk of, and all of the bikes are remarkably similar to ride. Have a look in the photos section or in the for sale section.

Cheers,

MT

I'd say buy the one you like the looks of and that fits your budget. They're so alike otherwise that you're not ever likely to say "Oh, I wish I'd got the other one"

The carbed ones (pre 2003) are my favourite personally- they're not quite as good out of the box as the new ones, but it's marginal, and the savings you'll make will be more than enough to bridge the gap should you wish to.

ok, I'll bite. Why is the K3 the best? Cosmetically there isn't really anything to choose from. The K3 is slightly different to K4 onwards which means finding parts for it is slightly more difficult than other models.

Subframe shape? there's quite a few exhausts that won't fit on the models with the new shape subframe.

Because they were the only silver model (unless you go for a thou).

Subframe is slightly different. The only adavntage I have found to this so far, is that if you fit a shock with a piggyback reservoir you won't have to cut into the battery box quite so much. Not really a big deal though.

Not sure about the parts thing though? I know a seat from a later model won't fit and also various huggers but parts-wise, I thought they were the same.
