just recently my ignition fuse keeps blowing any ides as to why.
the only thing that i have changed is the front indicators and the rears, i done the rear indis last year and have had no probs, have done the fronts a couple of months ago and have had a few probs with getting the front right indi to work(thing it was my wiring though) but it works now but i still cant seem to understand why the ignition fuse is blowing( surely if it was the indis at fault the signal relay would blow?). it is rather frustrating as i do need to use my bike and i dont want it to blow when i might have a car sat on my ****. oh yeah. now when i have my font seat off where the fuses are and i turn my ignition on and off i can hear a slight clicking noise that seems to be coming from the fuse in question. is that normal or could it be to do with something shorting out? cheers adey |

If I was you I would be checking and tracing back the wires through the loom to the fuse box. I would wager that one of them has been rubbing on the frame or some such other metal bracket and rubbed through the insulation and shorting out somewhere which is why your fuse is blowing.
Its pretty common for this to happen. My SV has this fault as did one belonging to a colleague at work. HTH

Two main places to check. Remove the rider seat and check for all wiring around that. Look for any rubbing AT ALL on the loom. and another is where the loom comes across the subframe on the LHS (AS you sit on the bike). Idealy you would need to take off the seat unit. Toch wood mines not done it, but a couple of SVS that i look after have. Repair with tape and cable tie out of the way

Sounds like the regulator / rectifier to me. Before anyone says "but it hasn't blown any bulbs" that doesn't always happen. My Firestorm's reg / rec just went pop without doing any bulbs. I'm not sure what the amp rating of the main fuse is on an sv but I would have thought it would be about 30 amps. If you're blowing that I would deffo check the reg / rec. 30 amps is a hell of a lot of juice and a fairly hefty fuse to blow so I would suggest the reg / rec isn't doing its job and so therefore is fooked.

i am gonna check the bike tomorrow night for any rubbing marks on the wiring loom.
if it is the regulator/rectifier would that blow the ignition fuse? as there is a seperate fuse for the indicators. the signal fuse is 15amp and the ignition fuse is only 10 amp the reg/rec is like the relay? the thing that sits next to the fuse box under the riders seat? |

RR should be on the right under the rear panel iirc.
