Default What are the differences between pre-'03 forks and post-'02?

I'm not talking about the adjustability factor, or the OEM springs used etc, but dimensions.

What thickness are the fork tubes on each. what size are the fork tops? What lengths are each of them?

Would the fork tubes of a post-'02 model fit into the fork sleeves and yokes of a pre-'02 model, with a bit of modification?

Cheers.

The only difference is the pre-load caps, everything else is the same size.

The reason I ask, is that due to a bit of miscommunication I've bought a Matris cartridge system for the '03 onwards bikes. They don't do a kit for the early model, and apparently the kit I've got won't work as the fork tubes are thicker so the cartridge wont fit and the fork tops are the wrong size.

Just trying to find out what I can do to make this system work in my 2000 model.

your probably gonna have to flog your curvy style forks and buy some pointy ones second hand from somewhere.

As well as the internal dimension of the fork tubes being different the fork lowers are different aswell. That means your front wheel wont fit either and you'll need to swap that too.

I dont know how feasible or even if its possible to put your lowers on a set of pointy fork tubes tho????

good luck

I've already got custom bodywork that will only fit the old style lowers, so if the worst comes to the worst, it's the Matris kit that'll be sold; however, I know a couple of good guys who can modify anything to pretty much fit anything else. They managed to make both a CRG lever work with a Brembo master cylinder, and a custom kickstand for a Hayabusa work on my bike, when everyone on here and Visordown said both combinations were impossible... so I trust them to know their stuff.

I can't see the yokes being a problem, or to a certain extent the fork tube length, and overall fork length... the crux is going the be the dimensions of the post-'02 fork tubes compared to the pre-'03 fork sleeves. I need to find out the cross-dimensions of each.

Cheers.

I'm not really up on what's involved with those kits, but it's possible that the flow is designed to work with the specific fork dimensions- ie, even if they cna be physically made to fit, getting them to work right might be a sod.

Right, the only thing now stopping this from working is the diameter of the damper rods in the onld style forks.

Does anyone know if the K3 damper rods will fit the old style sleeves?

Cheers.
