Default Knox Contour Back Protector

As well as the new jacket I also bought one of these:

It's a Knox Contour. Have been meaning to get one for ages.

I wore it on my ride on Sunday (164 miles) and after a few miles I forgot I had it on. It is VERY comfortable, fits like a glove, does NOT make you hot, is fully adjustable and fits well under the jacket. I feel a bit of a pillock for putting it off for so long, stupid really, especially after a certain mishap 2 years ago. It cost £100 - so not the cheapest on the market - but 10/10 for comfort. I hope never to test its impact protection

I'll back that up cos I have road tested mine! I have had it since Blueflame's off in March and can't praise it more - especially when I fell off and broke five ribs. The doc said that without it, I would quite likely have broken my back and punctured a lung. Oh and not a bruise in sight. He said it was the best £100 I have ever spent.

Is there much between different protectors as long as you have one?

I'm thinking safety rather than comfort.

I got the Knox gilet jacket with contour back protector built in which I wore to the AR06. Really comfortable apart from the fact the removable chest protector makes it feel like a life jacket.

They are all tested by the standards agency I think. I had a lightweight HG vest which was good for 5nM of force psI (or summat) against 15 for the Knox. When you get up to paying £100 for your back protector, they will offer the same amount of protection so it is down to what is most comfortable. Ask at the shop if you're not sure or research on the net.

Should back protectors be replaced after a crash

Mine has gone through 2 off's, and I certainly landed on my back after the second as I can see the pattern of the back protector stamped onto my leather jacket
It seems OK, although it feels a bit more flexible that when I first had it

any thoughts

Thats the point I was making - will a £20 no name brand cut it?

Aren't they like a helmet, any knocks will reduce the effectiveness of the shock absorbing foam.

I think they're entirely different with regard to construction than a helmet and unless you can see/feel some physical damage I'm sure it'll be fine.
