Default New bike safety add

anybody seen the new bike safety advert where a daft bird opens the car door and the biker wraps it wound a lampost.

Is this any use to us as bikers? It makes the point of paying attention on familiar roads - which is a good valid point, but are the main issues not the daft car driver not paying enough attention.

Personally I would have thought so. I'm sure someone will be along in a mo to point out the link .

Cheers

I've had a look on Think Road Safety web page but can't find a new ad. When/where did you see it?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Surley this ad should be aimed at the car drivers too, "the door you open without looking" / "the biker you nearly kill cos you're so busy pandering to your kids to think about anyone else" / "the extra second it would have taken to look for a bike could have saved a life"

Bloody TFL, first they try and encourage us to use bikes as they are congestion freindly then they want to tell us to be carful out there? How about educating the drivers to have better manners for bikes?

To date i've only seen one ad aimed at cagers and a good one it was too. You all know it - the guy pulls out the junction and gets slamed into by the bike. the "How Close" ad.

But then this countries attitude to road safety seems to be "If no-one dies then its ok. If they're crippled for life and need 24hr care then thats fine too, cos out road stats are all about deaths on the roads not accidents due to bad driving regarless of the casualty outcome"

Like the ads that say its ok to run kids over, just as long as you hit them at 30mph the govt will accept it. What fool thought that a good message?
Shouldnt the message be "DONT run kids over. And kids, DONT think that drivers are paying attention and have seen you. Roads are for cars and bikes and vans and lorries and any of them can kill you if youre not carefull!"

my 2p worth for you all.

Just throwing my 2cents in... Almost got run into on the underpass before Euston Station on the way to work. Genius driving a Prius sees traffic in his lane (Right one) and then starts pulling into my lane (left) while I am about 2 feet away. Anyway, brakes on and horn going like crazy and then this muppet just puts his hand on the horn back at me. Genius! Don't think he realises that in a car vs bike situ, I'm coming off worse regardless of how much beeping he is doing!

Woke me up on the way to work though.

I get a bunch of people every day pulling out just in front of me - they are usually in big red things with some sort of logo on them, it looks like a circle with a line through it.
