Default Damn Bike.... Rant!

Right.. Having a few problems with my K3.

2 weeks ago it was remapped and ran like a dream for a week.

Since last week it has developed the following symptons:

1. Low revs are a disaster, you pull away and it wants to stall, meaning you need to pull away at 3000rpm+. Also riding at low revs is near imposible, due to the snatchy(ness) of it.

2. When riding it feels that it is being strangled, and doesn't want to rev up.

I spent a fortune on it recently to try and fix problem No2 (remmaped at Steve Jordans, plus new BMC filter, dyno'd etc etc).

Point 2 could be the 'Snatchy Throttle' problem i.e put in dealer mode and change, but why would it suddenly get these problems after being fine!

It is getting to a point now that I want to go back to a carbed bike, and the options are a Honda CBR or Hornet.. I am seriously tempted! Its driving me mad. The only thing holding me back is my love for the bike (twin) and the amount of money that has been spent on it.

Bike is healthy as far as I know, all liquids are correct.

Rant over

Anyone else had any problems.

Suggestions??

Yep it comes in easy and easier. If you have a spare spark plug, Just pop the HT leads(spark plug leads) off, clip in the spark plug and hold the body (threaded part) of the plug against the frame or engine of the bike to ground it (You are after an electrical connection, so a painted surface is no good). Use a glove or something as you can get a fair shock off these if you're not careful. Press the starter button for a coupleof seconds and you should see a strong blue spark. Now try the other lead.

Better than this is to remove each spark plug and test it with it's own HT lead as that checks for a duff plug as well.

BUT..... Would the exhaust note be different? It still sounds like 2, although, it looks like it is running as rich as you like.

I'd try a new set of plugs first of all. Sounds like the remapping has made it run a bit on the rich side and now the plugs have fouled. Better still take it back to the people you just paid to do the mapping and get them to sort it out for you. Given the timescales involved I'd be really surprised if the bike has suddenly developed another fault that is totally unrelated to the work they carried out.

If it is running as bad as you say then the only sensible option is to take it straight back to the people in question. You should not be having to do fault finding so soon after spending cash to improve the running of the bike.

Bobby, give steve a call and bring it down for him to have a look at.

I saw your fueling curve - cause i am nosey and look at all the ones from SV's we dyno - and the fueling was spot on so as the ECU cant drop a map its more than likely unrelated either plugs or TPS. You say you put it into dealer mode - what exactly did you change?.

Re plugs have you been out in excessive wet weather as this has been known to cause problems on the front cylinder?. If its running on one then yes the exhuast note will change and it will feel flat right through to not pulling or a misfire if its really bad. TBH it sounds like this is whats occuring, an easy fix supposidly is to fit a front fender extender which keeps the water off the front cylinder. It does only seem to affect some bikes though and not others.

But then again i work in the shop and am not the mechanic ...im good at making tea though

Give him a buzz..he will get it sorted for you.
