The jet, being sold by truck dealer Chris Kelly, saw active service during the Falklands War - and even took part in the attack that sunk the Argentinean battleship The Belgrano.

I seam to remember that it was a Sub that sank it miles away from the Falklands....

1982: British sub sinks Argentine cruiser
Argentina's only cruiser, the General Belgrano, has been sunk by a British nuclear submarine in the South Atlantic.
It is the first serious attack on the Argentine navy by the British since the conflict over the disputed Falkland Islands began last month.

.
The thing that made me smile was the Genral Belgrano was the only USA Ship left afloat in Peral Harbour after the attack, and was sold to the Argentines after the end of WWII and then We sank her. ironic really...

I asked him if he could ship it to me at an arranged price. No response yet.

Was it called The General Belgrano back in WWII?

Bad mojo to change a ship's name y'know.

Yup.

The other big shipping loss, the HMS Sheffield was sunk due to one of the most famous computer bugs in history. (AFAIK) The system was not trained to be looking for Exocet missiles because they werent on the list of missiles that it expected a Russian ship to use. So, it saw the missile, classified it as freindly, and stood down. Oops. There was some effort to keep this quiet I think.

I think that had to try shutting the whole thing down, and do manual over-ride, and in the mean time the missile struck.

I think the most suprised people around were the pilots of the Arg. Dassault Super Étendards, who apparantly were fully expecting them to be shot down.
