Default Downhill diving pogo suspension cornering confidence

Thats the keywords sorted in the title!

Newbie but I'm out every day on a new K6 sv650s. I've done approx 2k miles and learned a lot about the bike in a short time. I have changed the tyres to stradas - huge handling difference. OEMs sliding. Set up the front sag and this made a slight difference.

Problems I want to overcome are...

1. Downhill breaking before a bend - confidence decreases big time. Suspension dives, bodyweight shifts forward on bike, feel pressure on wrists, palms press into grips and it makes it difficult to blip throttle for down changing and smooth out a declutch. (reposition angle of levers, suspension mod?)

No matter how much I grip with my knees into tank it always feels like I am resting on the bars.

2. Cranking on in the straights - don't feel confident about speed. The front seems to pogo and uneven roads dont inspire confidence. Even mildly uneven roads feel like I'm going over a series of potholes.(Lack of damping control?)

I have the luxury of a cbr600f to play with for a fortnight and I dont suffer any of these problems at all - no discomfort - nada. Its like a rolls royce compared to the SV in terms of comfort but I love the SVs grunt/looks/sound etc

I am 12 stone 10 in the buff. 13 st 6 in full kit. I'm 6' 1.2"

Can anyone shed some light on improvements

Sounds like the same problems as mine. Think its time for some Hagon springs and an oil upgrade in the forks.

Try riding at night and its even worse, brake hard for a corner and the headlight shines on the top of the front wheel!

What you need is a set of fork springs from the boys at K-teck, i had exactly the same problem. I called them up told them what bike I had and before i'd even finished the sentence the guy said 'you need fork springs in that'... anyway, the contact number is 01530 810625,just say that Richard form ALF ENGLAND MOTORCYCLES recommended you

There are a number of manufacturers who can supply you with more suitable springs for your weight than the standard ones, (which are generally accepted to suit someone of about 10 stones +/- a bit).

In no order of preference some of them are:

Hagon
Progressive
Ohlins
Maxton
Hyperpro

Make a choice after you've spoken to/e-mailed them and asked for a recommendation of spring rate as some of them offer different weights dependant on your weight.

I'm a bit shorter than you but similar weight. With mine we mixed up some 15W fork oil and stuck that in there. After some experimenting with the air gap, it now seems fine. If you're stuck for cash then maybe try that first?

Well done for bining the oem tyres btw...

What they all said Though I think the Ohlins springs that most shops can get for your model are only in a single rate, somewhere around .80kg/whateveritis, which I'd think it'd be a bit soft. That's what I had in mine, and it was nicely stiff for me at 11 stone geared.

and re-position your levers stuartyboy, takes 1 min and makes a big diff to your wrists/forearms.even on the brakes your arms take the weight and you can still grab the brakes too hard and let the clutch back out too fast and get the rear sliding
