Default hit & run & reporting to "local police station&

hi,

Was hit & run this morning.

Police on phone said, "report it to your local police station".

Got partial reg, colour & make so I'm going to follow this up esp as my bike is a bit battered. & i've got lots of nice bruising.

Now my question is: My local police station doesnt' open till 10 am. (in Clapham)

There's one near my ofice in Holborn - should I report it there? I think it's Met not City of London.

Will they even give a damn?

Ta muchly,

Dirk.

Sorry to hear this mate, hope someone catches up with the barsteward that drove off!

I would definitely report it asap. You never know, there might be cctv in the area that has caught the incident on camera, might get a reg no. etc.

Glad you are ok though & hope the bike isn't too bad...

Def. report is ASAP, but DO NOT leave the CCTV enqs for the Cops to do. Go back to the scene with the Police incident number you are given and do all the enqs yourself. If anyone has a problem, quote the reference number. Don't forget to take some vhs tapes and CDr's as many modern systems are hard disk based and the owner will not want to suppply media for you.
If you do leave it for the cops to do, it may well be several weeks before anyone even gets allocated to report to investigate and by then CCTV will have been either erased or written over.
You can also try putting up some signs with "serious motorcycle collision" and your mobile number on it as a witness appeal.
Hope you are OK and get the dozy plonker.
Also, if the investigation by the cops does locate him, he may go along the lines of "oh I didn't realise I had made contact with the bike" and the collision is written off with no further action. If this does happen, do not let his insurance company (fingers crossed he is insured) claim no fault. Fight it all the way for 100% liability on his part.

Yeah, DO NOT WAIT FOR THE POLICE TO INVESTIGATE!!!

They are far too slow to have an effect.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

sorry about the prang, glad you're OK

I had a similar incident back in Feb, managed to get the reg of the van from the CCTV in the local filling station, and the police are now doing him for dangerous driving & failure to stop.

You'll have to help Mr Plod along though as he can be a bit slow

Good luck finding him and heal fast.
Hope you're not in too much pain - Don't forget Arnica for the bruises.

Oh, and photos of bike and bruises, remember might take some time to look their worst.
