Default Ignition Woes

Well my bike is back at the shop.

Decided that I needed to be in to work early, and as I was getting up anyway I would go visit Kinvig and assist with his Jaguar Stalking (more on this later)

So I get to Clapham Park Road, see him and park up.

We then talk about the Pointy/Curvy differences - he said he liked the Tacho on the Pointy - I turned the ignition on so he could wonder at the marvels that are an Engine Temp gauge and a clock !!!!!.

When I did this, the key seemed a little "funny", I needed more force (and a little jiggling) to get it to turn - just put it down to the angle I was working from (had the tank-bag on, was standing to the side etc).

Anyways we stopped our Vigil (was time to get to work, and I went to start the bike, I couldn't turn the key. I tried for a while - so long that Kinvig came back past on the way to the tube and he tried - with no luck.

He then fetched a can of the mighty WD40 - some in the lock, some on the key, dtill no luck.

Long story short I pushed it down to Infinity, and have left it with them to sort out.

Now I know what everyone is thinking - Superglue in the lock.

But...

1) Bike was last left outside yesterday, at work and was started and driven home no problem

2) Bike was garaged last night.

3) Bike started fine at home, then at the petrol station, so twice this morning.

4) No sign of tampering.

So I am hoping I dont have to argue Warranty issue with them.

The upside is that while they cant work on it today (fully booked for work) they are hoping to do it tomorrow - and will do the 600 mile 1st service at the same time (as well as replacing my brake lever.

So back on the CG125......

Anyways about Kinving - the bike jinxer as he will now be forever known - mainly because there was no tea or jaffa cakes

David

PS - Thanks for all your help this morning Kinvig - very much appreciated - tho you know have a jaffa cack debt :P

Did you push the key down in the lock and then turn?

Yep - as did 2 employees at Infinity, the sales guy that sold me it, and the guy that I guess is the apprentice mechanic (we had a bit of a laugh watching him trying to get it started to ride it to the workshop :P )

I did exactly what I did on BOTH occsasions that it started this morning.

Believe me I was HOPING I would end up looking like an idiot if the Infinity guy tried and it worked, but not to be.

Nope, exact same key that started it at home, opened the petrol cap, locked the petrol cap, then started it again to get to Kinvig's.

Oh and it also opened the seat to allow me to stash my disk lock when I went to get the bike to push it.

CG key (was at the time) sitting at home :P

Mine does something similar all the time. Have to push and turn the key a few times before it'll turn. Usually a wee drop of WD frees things up. Thankfully I haven't been stuck anywhere.

Yep, mine does that too. Bit of engine oil from time to time clears it usually. Think it's a sign of a worn lock, usually, I know mine is- I can take the key out when it's running too

My key only works one way (larger side of the keyring hole to the front).

Oh, and I can't get Timpsons to make a copy that works after 3 attempts.

In your case, possibly knackered from the shop. But more likely just wants a touch of oil.
