Default Rear Carrier For curvy advice please

Hi,

I've just returned to biking after(probably too) many years. Hello everyone. I've got a 2003 registered K2 naked SV 650.

I intend riding from Santander to Cadiz via a western route in the spring, and I need some luggage. I don't intend to take a lot of other clothes so I imagine that a fairly large (45L?) top box will do.

I would really appreciate advice about what carrier rack, top box - and whatever else I need.

Thanks,

jonboy

Firstly welcome to the forum Personally I use a rentec rack and a roll bag and oxford panniers and tank bag I'm not a great fan of top boxes!!! The rentec rack cost me about £40 from Hien Gerricke!! I think they do topboxes and racks.

Thanks for the info and welcome, Billy.

What is the thing about top boxes? Having said that, I remember carrying a Tiger 110 engine on the back of an AJS m20 (a long time ago!) and it felt like the front wheel was waving about in the air. I just want a box/bag that I can get off and on easily.

I won't be taking the missus, cos she thinks I should be committed, and I don't intend to do any ballroom dancing so I'm hoping to stick to one item and the top box just seemed handy. Will guys look at me suspiciously if I get one?

Me personally I think top boxes spoil the look of the bike you can get a large roll bag that is waterproof and fasten it on with bungee straps or a cargo net.

My AJS model 18 feels like that with an *empty* top box on the rack, let alone with scrap in it :P .

A good tank bag will hold a lot too. I have to admit my SV is the only bike I've not had luggage on, besides the tank bag.

Renntec rack's good, but not ideal for mounting a top box plate... There's a top box bracket on Ebay at the mo though. Or, you could do what I plan to do- get the box and plate of your choice, and a spare rear seat, and bolt the plate to the seat.

Hi Billy,
Will I regret saying this? What's a roll bag?

I've done a small amount of touring (a few thousand miles) and the only word I have for you is VENTURA.
