Default Heel Plates - To laquer or not?

Ok, bought some nice new SV650 heel plates. I got them in satin to sort of match the silverwork on the bike. Now, do I lacquer them (they are stainless steel) or do I just put them on the bike and clean them when they're dirty? Will they be anymore protected if I do lacquer them? Or am I just not talking any sense at all? (Won't be the first time).

Well my standard ones are scratched and bent to bugg€ry from gripping them with my heels. So you may wear therough whatever finish there is, I'd just clean them when they get dirty and let your bike get some character. But then you might want it to always look new. I'm not sure if lacquering will change the finish slighlty and wear through in places. Not very helpful, I'm sorry..

I've got the same heel plates by the sound of.

They got marked quite quickly by my boots, so I got them powdercoated. Looked good I think, although they are due another coat now. Much easier than keep polishing them when they were shiny.

i am slowly wearing the paint off my heel plates i am thinking of painting them black what is your guys thoughts. I was going to use a black epoxy propeller paint that sticks amazingly well and doesn't wear off easily

I think you will wear through the lacquer and make it go an ugly white color very quickly.

If they're stainless I'd leave them as such.
